WA surfer Damien Warr’s five-year wait paid off big time today, as he carried off the biggest wave award.
Warr 39, earned the $20,000 prize for his ride at Western Australia’s Cow Bombie last October.
"It was in the 15 to 20 foot range and there was no wind, just perfect," said Sydney-born Warr, who for the last 12 years has lived 10 minutes drive from Cow Bombie in the south-west of WA.
"We were quite blessed to have a pretty spectacular day.
"It’s definitely not the biggest wave I’ve caught out there, but it was a special wave, just because I hadn’t got any waves out there for quite some time.
