After a week full of rain and cancelled training we found ourselves playing UNSW at Blacktown Olympic Park Oval No. 2 in wet conditions and for the second week in a row coming away with the four points. With the side really starting to firm up every position is filled with a player that really wants to be part of something special for the Dockers.
When young Sam Goldsworthy turned up at 10am fully dressed boots and all I knew it was going to be a big day for the ressies. We welcomed back John Barry for his second game in the purple and white after a broken nose (in three places). With Maxie Burch, the Dockers mud runner, on the ball we quickly found first hands on the ball and linking up with John Barry made the forwards eyes light up. The evergreen anchor held tight to the goal square with five goals but was out done by the bushman rounding up 7 goals from centre half forward most from 45m and across the body.
On the wings Cottsy and Whitey were unstoppable linking up with Undies and Beiber on the half forward line the side had plenty of run and good ball skills. Once again Jase Fretwell and Skinny lead the back six proving that they are where our games are won with tireless tackling, spoiling, and discipline. A special mention must go out to Boyd Arndell who showed great control and respect to his team mates and is quickly becoming a complete footballer. Great work mate. Also to all the boys who gave their Saturday to run water and the boundary - thank you very much we wouldn't have won without your help.
With the 43pt win over UNSW we head into this weeks game against St George with a new found confidence knowing that we have the fitness and mental toughness to lead a game from start to finish so once again I ask you to get around your mates, get on board, and enjoy this ride. Don't forget about Sundays $1000 draw at the Sports Club - it's a good chance to have a beer and tell Kippa how good he really is and how much better he would be if he could kick straight, great work boys.
Cheers Bigshow
