Max Chatwin was a Club stalwart from the mid sixties through to the eighties and passed away from a respiratory illness on 28th November at his home on the Central Coast of NSW.
Max came to Balmain from his home State of Tasmania in 1967 and although this was at the end of his playing career Max played a few games for the Club before taking up the role of Senior Club Trainer.
During his long term as Senior Club Trainer, Max was recognized not only by Balmain players but also by his peers from rival clubs as being one of the most proficient trainers in the League.
Max also had a great sense of humor and would constantly be playing practical jokes on players/officials/supporters and in particular new players to the club.
After moving to the Central Coast Max became involved with lawn bowls and became an active official of his local bowls club.
Max never lost his affection for the Balmain "Footy" Club and would often talk about his time spent with the Club to his mates and also former players of the Club who also moved up the Coast.
To Max’s family we offer our sincere condolences for their untimely loss, he will truly be remembered by us as a great Balmain Clubman.
